BRUSSELS (AFP) - – Bankrupt top flight Belgian football club Mouscron have pulled out of the league for the season, according to media reports here on Monday.
Mouscron's results will be scrapped and the club placed last in the table with the other 15 teams in the top flight continuing the league programme without them.
The Belga news agency reported that players and club employees, numbering up to 100 people, will receive letters of dismissal before December 31.
Players will be freed from their contracts and can sign elsewhere without a transfer fee.
Mouscron, lying ninth in the Belgian first division, have been placed in receivership with debts amounting to 800,000 euros.
Founded in 1922, the club have played in the top flight since 1996 and were Belgium Cup finalists in 2002 and 2006.
